The teams’ starting lineup was scoring and they were flowing in more ways than not. Most people noticed LeBron James’ no-look pass to VJ Edgecomb to start the game.
Pretty spectacular, right?
But it did not end there.
Jaylen Brown contributed 18 points and looked as if he was picking up where the Finals MVP started from last year.
Tyrese Maxey was the floor general. He scored 14 points and even showed no fierce signs of a colossal dunk. It was pretty surprising there was no and-1 called.
Maxey had to alert Embiid at times to stay alert in a preseason game with it being critical to stay on page with two new teammates such as James and Brown. After the huddle between big and small, Embiid showed vintage signs of him playing responsible defense and almost stealing a ball out of play.
The Maxey and Embiid connection will be key. I think honestly LeBron James cannot coach up Embiid nor will he be disrespected by media for comments made by Mike Breen saying from a close source that he missed a little practice and James reprimanded him.
Only Embiid has the power to circulate around his teammates and coach Nick Nurse to play better basketball. A loss to the Brooklyn Nets was not the way to start. Hopefully, they do better.
The team is in love with reserve LeBaron Philon and Dean Wade looked fantastic shooting the ball which may be his only strength.
Wade let loose a turnover pass and Jabari Walker showed he wants to make the team. James proves he still needs another preseason game or two to warmup to new ideas generated on the basketball court.
