Lawrence Tanter, one of the best PA basketball announcers of all-time, has passed away at the age of 76. His voice was deepening, familial, and zealous.
“Lawrence Tanter has been an integral part of the Lakers gameday experience for more than four decades, setting the tone for countless memorable moments with his professionalism, energy and signature booming voice,” Lakers governor Jeanie Buss said in a statement at the time.
He narrated every single game between 1982 and 2018. A big instrument on his part as he was also a disc jockey of jazz music.
Tanter enjoyed time and memories at the Forum and current Cryto.com arena. The Lakers won 16 Western Conference Finals and 10 NBA championships under his belt as a PA announcer.
He announced his retirement earlier this summer. His intentions were to transition into a game day presentation advisor.
Nonetheless, he got to witness some of the greatest Lakers players of all step onto the court and bestow Tanter the honor and privilege to call L.A. basketball.
