The state of the Philadelphia Phillies is not bleak. It is mesmerizing to believe that the team continues to progress into September with a 22-9 record. What is more interesting is that the 2026 Phillies are in the hunt for a Wild Card or Divisional spot.

They currently face the Atlanta Braves and just came off an unfortunate loss. The Braves have posed no bigger threat. Throughout most of the year, they have played atop the NL East and gone on to successfully defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The difference between the two major threats are that Shohei Ohtani is injured and Ronald Acuna Jr keeps himself in current good shape. That is not to say the Phillies are a threat, too. Since July 4, the Dodgers have scored fewer runs. The Dodgers are the main threat to impose upon.

They have the extra speed and depth to travel miles this October. October will likely see featured guests such as Jacob Misiorowski and Pete Crow.Armstrong who have held their own. The one surprsing team to not rule out are the San Diego Padres as they made a ditch effort to acquire new owner Jose Feliciano.

The Padres are a team with more promising hope than ever.

The Phillies want to reach that hopeful goal of winning a championship. Bryce Harper is having one of his best seasons into his thirties. He is not allowing Dave Dombrowski to faze him. Harper is a generational player for this plan of Dombrowski’s not to work.

And, so is Zack Wheeler. Wheeler has excelled in hostile environments and played to the best of his abilities despite the harsh criticism. Wheeler proves what it takes to still be an ace or right-hand man to Christopher Sanchez.

The Phillies traded for Luis Arraez last month and that has proved successful. He has reminded Philly fans that he can hit wherever Arraez goes and bring a flow to a team’s lineup.

Aaron Nola, JT Realmuto, and Alec Bohm have not played their best seasons. The Phillies show light in newer stars such as top prospect Aidan Miller returning to Low A. Justin Crawford, Andrew Painter trying to follow him through the developmental process to play with big leaguers that strive to win a championship.

Crawford does nothing different than use his speed and contact for rangy at-bats. As for Painter, he slowly developed a new type of changeup that purifies his fastball. it is good for both as the Phillies will need them the more come October.

It is too early to predict the future. If the Phillies lose in October, there is no failure because they have reached the postseason during the last four seasons and the state of the Phillies is not bleak.

it is a failure to those that cannot captivate the brilliance put on by owner John Middleton. He took a chance on Harper and created some memorable years. Harper and most of the veteran core, including Don Mattingly, will not return next season if the Phillies lose.

The Fightin’ Phils will win. The word elite should not define Harper any longer. What must follow is a championship or else he maybe half of the Phillies regretful 2026 season.
