Alexander Ovechkin Passes Wayne Gretzky with No. 895
Alexander Ovechkin does not get praised enough because he has not finished or accomplished what Wayne Gretzky has attained. Ovechkin has faced mighty feats whether winning the 2018 Stanley Cup or joining Gordie Howie and Wayne Gretzky with 800 career goals.
Something crazy took place Sunday afternoon, and I mean spectacular. He surpassed all-time NHL great Wayne Gretzky with 895 goals off a goal to Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders in UBS Arena and the crowd went wild. His teammates partied and huddled around him and afterwards Gary Bettman and Wayne Gretzky came down the aisle to congratulate Mr. Ovechkin.
It was a self-serving event as one’s got to wonder left all the accomplishments that do remain for Ovechkin as he is not far from over from being one of the greatest of all time.

Edmonton Hangover
The 4 Nations play comes to a close as now the Edmonton Oilers find themselves in a bit of a hole. That has begun with captain of Edmonton, Conor McDavid. He has only accrued one power play assist in the last two games. Not so Conor McDavid after his pickup win over USA.
He said the following, “We haven’t been very good. Just getting back to work. Sometimes this happens after breaks. Some teams come up flying. Some teams come up flat. We have obviously done the latter. So yeah, gotta get back to it.”
Even though he was not Team Canada captain, Sidney Crosby, I respect his leadership but not his accountability. This has been the eying problem of McDavid from time to time especially against the Philadelphia Flyers, to no fault are in a rebuilding phase and look great with rookie Matvei Michkov and John Tortorella trying to prove on his resume he can take a seed and rise to the occasion.
All that aside, they did also play Alexander Ovechkin and the defense cannot allow errors in the marginal column when it enters the postseason. It is highly touted with Darnell Nurse and Evan Bouchard.
Nurse is in fact the nephew of star quarterback Donovan McNabb and comes to the aid when necessary. Edmonton cannot afford to lose out because if they do, the Calgary Flames or Vancouver Canucks might creep up, and you do not want that, Edmonton, Canada.

Sam Reinhart is on fire
It was Aleksander Barkov soaking in a four point win vs. Dallas in his hometown Finland. Then, there was the main star Sam Reinhart who added a goal and assist.
Reinhart has started the season hot with the league lead in goals and points. He has left off from last year.
Poised.
He has accumulated four power play points and scored 10 goals total tied with Nico Hischier and Cole Caulfield. He was named the first star of the week and who could blame.
Reinhart is on fire to start the season.

Artyom Levshunov to miss time
Artyom Levshunov is forgoing the NHL Prospects Showcase due to a foot injury. A puck happened to severely hit his right foot and will miss some time. The showcase is always an opportunity to boost their prospects at NHL training camp but with that being said, Levshunov is a former No.2 overall pick by the Blackhawks touted to be Connor Bedard’s running mate going forward.

Stanley Cup Connor McDavid UnHappy Meal
Connor McDavid is the best NHL player in the league. He skates at about tops 23 mph and currently leads the postseason with a dominating 38 points. McDavid is a rare commodity.
He recently broke the all-time playoff assist record (32) and joined legends such as Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky to record at least seven 100 point seasons prior to the age of 28.
McDavid has timely sent the fans home happy. He works with a tremendous supporting cast of Leon Draisaitl, Evander Kane, Evan Bouchard, and coach Kris Knoblauch who could be credited.
The Edmonton Oilers reached the Stanley Cup Final and faced the Florida Panthers. The Panthers started hot but tonight lost to Edmonton 3-5 following a Connor McDavid goal, his 42nd point of the postseason and did not allow, this time, for Matthew Tkachuk to swipe a goal shot at the end.
In the end, it is to be argued coach Paul Maurice was the most unhappy.
